海上收藏大家

彭谷声(1905-1956),亦作彭谷孙,彭穀孫。江苏溧阳人。字无咎(無咎),号止戈居士。工书,尤擅小楷,喜集地方文献与名人书札,所得自宋司马光信札始,以及元、明、清、民国等历代信札多达十万通之数。

除名人尺牍外,彭谷声还收有不少宋瓷,古籍善本,书法碑帖,名人书画等,其中尤以海内孤本《旧五代史》而闻名。彭谷声在南京民国政府担任法务要职,与清末民国时的社会名流,知名艺术家、学者多有结交。

Peng Gusheng (1905-1956) Also known by his art name Peng Gusun, Peng Wujiu, Zhi Ge Ju Shi (Lay Buddhist Zhi Ge), was one of the most prominent collectors in early times of Republic of China. He was also a Chinese philologist, supreme court judge, calligrapher and calligraphy critic. He was born in Li Yang, Jiangsu. He is most well known for owning the largest letter/correspondent collection in China, numbering over one hundred thousand pieces.

Besides letters and correspondents, he also collected porcelain wares, rare ancient books, calligraphy, stone rubbing pieces, paintings, among which included the only copy of “Old History of the Five Dynasties” by Xue Juzheng(that ended up missing during the Sino-Japan war.) He served as a supreme court judge in Nan Jing and made friends with artists, scholars, and revolutionists at the time.
